Event Description

With media fragmenting into a multitude of channels, how do you create opportunities to get the word out, while managing the message in moments of crisis? Award-winning journalist and communications strategist Paul Sullivan shares important techniques to effectively communicate key messages – especially in moments of crisis such as when an irate guest calls the evening news or a disgruntled employee turns to Twitter. At HSMAI British Columbia's April 16th event, Mr. Sullivan will discuss insights on positioning your hotel, restaurant or brand to stand out in the marketplace, while sharing principles behind managing, with diplomacy and tact, delicate issues that have made it into the public eye.

Named one of the 20 most prominent British Columbians on the Internet by the Vancouver Sun, Mr. Sullivan draws from his years of experience in media, including Western Editor of the Globe and Mail and Managing Editor of the Vancouver Sun, to inform his recommendations on building communication strategies that maximize resources and prepare your team for managing media in an era of customers-turned-reporters.
Participants of this event will:

  1. Understand how both social and traditional media work and learn to leverage media to promote organizational objectives.
  2. Craft your internal and external communications plan with an eye to increasing opportunities to get your message out.
  3. Identify the principles and components of a successful communications strategy that will enable you to manage attention in both good times and bad.
  4. Learn important techniques that allow for the effective communication of key messages – including how to deal with a communications crisis.
